Review and Battle of the NYC glosses!

I have been a long long time fan of NYC's Roll-On Lip Gloss in either watermelon or strawberry so when I happen to see other NYC glosses at the Lisa's Cosmetic Sale I didn't hesitate to pick one up.

The gloss I picked up was the Lip Smoothie in strawberry. I opened the packaging yesterday and applied it on my lips. I immediately noticed an awful plastic smell on my lips and wiped them off right away. For the next 3+ hours I could smell that horrible plastic smell. Also the texture of the lip gloss was not for me it was super sticky and waxy feeling.

I went on NYC's site today to try to look up more info on this product and couldn't find it anywhere so maybe its discontinued. Thank god for that because I would never ever recommend this product to anyone.

It doesn't even come close to the NYC Roll-On Lip Gloss which is my absolute favorite. Its super shiny, not sticky at all and an added bonus is that it smells and tastes great!

At a price of approx $2.47 cdn this is def my go to gloss. It looks great over any lip liner or color or by itself. As far as I know its available at Walmart & Loblaws and a definite must have.

Warning about the Roll-On Lip gloss:
  • 90% of the time I've taken this gloss in my carry-on on a flight the roller ball dislodges and I can no longer use the gloss
  • If you take it on vaca to a hot place like the Caribbean DO NOT use this gloss when tanning as it ended up aiding in the burning of my lips after a few days.
Other then those 2 random minor things I give the NYC roll on gloss 2 thumbs UP and the NYC lip smoothie 2 thumbs DOWN! In fact its being trashed as we speak ;)

Cargo Cosmetics LashActivator™ Mascara & Blush Review & Swatches

Last week Cargo Cosmetics posted a giveaway on their twitter @CARGOcosmetics for a fabulous full-sized LashActivator™ Mascara and I won after answering a question about the company on their facebook fan page.

I was super excited when I got a personal email from one of the staff members telling me of my prize. She was enthusiastic, warm and was gracious enough to send me one of their award winning blushes in
Mendocino to test out.

Ive been wearing both the blush and mascara for 2 days now and adore them both.
According to Cargo's site the mascara
stimulates the growth of lash follicles, promotes lash vitality, and reduces lash loss in just 30 days! I mean really who doesn't want stronger longer lashes?

Its still to early to tell if this claim is true however the mascara itself is pretty good. The wand is a bit like the DEFINE-A-LASH mascara by Maybelline for comparison purposes. The formula and flexible wand made my lashes long without clumping and I really only needed 1 coat to go from this....

To this....

You can see just how much it opened my eyes and made my lashes appear thicker.
I have tried mascaras that made every claim in the book and what usually ends up happening with me is I'll use them once and if I'm not impressed they never get used again. I can honestly say that Cargo's mascara will not only be used on a regular basis but will probably be re-bought!

I was really excited to try out Cargo's blush as I had heard tons of fab things about it. I was sent Mendocino which has turned out to suit my skin tone perfectly and is fast becoming my favorite blush. The pigmentation is awesome and it glides on my skin really easily. Also look at the size of this blush... its pretty generous.

I'm a sucker for packaging so I'm a total fan the simplicity and modernness of Cargo's products.

Here you can see the mascara in full effect and a light dusting of the blush.

What else I love about Cargo Cosmetics:
  • They are 100% Canadian :)
  • They make an 100% Natural lipstick line named Plant Love. The lipstick itself is botanical, and the tube is made out of corn. In addition, you can plant the box and grow plants from it because it contains seeds and $2 from every celeb-designed lipstick goes to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
  • Amazing quality
  • Available online and at Sephora
  • The name CARGO comes from the idea that makeup is every woman's "cargo." - love that!
  • Over sized tins
  • Fab staff!
The Cargo brand has won me over and I will be adding some key pieces to my kit. If you haven't gotten a chance to try out this brand yet head over to Sephora and test out the product I have a feeling you just might fall in love with the line.

1 Runway Show, 2 Looks & 3 Makeup artists!

Thursday night I was the key makeup artist for the fashion show at the launch party for Lusso Magazine. It was my first time as a key mua for a fashion show but I was excited and pumped to work with the wonderful team I put in place. A friend and classmate Iris Liu and a fellow blogger and mua Anjali Handa who graciously came to assist us. They did a fab job and together with an awesome hair team we pulled off a hot look for these awesome models.

The models (mostly from Orange Model Management) working the runway!

After we were done with the 2 looks for the night we took some time to enjoy the end of the show and grab a drink.

It was a fabulous and very face paced night and I couldn't have done it without these 2 fab girls!

What scent makes you feel fab?

For as long as I can remember Ive adored the smell of roses. Yes the obvious fresh cut flowers smell wonderful but what I really love is rose essence. The kind found in some of my favorite products such as Dejarose perfume and Fix + with rose spray by Mac Cosmetics or the Plumeria & Wild Rose air freshener by Air Wick.

Apparently the scent of rose can help improve memory and roses also have therapeutic benefits such as rosewater has been shown to be very valuable as an antiseptic in eye infections. The rose also offers a soothing property to the nerves and emotional /psychological state of mind. It is regarded as a mild sedative and anti-depressant. It is increasingly used in treatments for conditions of stress: nervous tension, peptic ulcers, heart disease, among others. There is indication that rose essence may also positively influence digestion, bile secretion, womb disorders and circulation. In addition, a tea made with rose petals (pour 150 ml of boiling water over 1 /2 grams of rose petals) often soothes a mild sore throat.

Do you have a scent that makes you feel warm and fuzzy??

My Eve Pearl Magic Salmon Concealer Eye

My Eve Pearl black Friday purchase came in yesterday and of course I couldn't wait to test this concealer out as I have heard many great things about it.

I was quite pleasantly surprised at the size of this item as the picture on their site looked so small. In comparison to a MAC shadow you can see just how generous the size of this tri colored concealer is.

The consistency is super creamy and I noticed that a little bit goes a long way.

I have to be honest and say that I'm not too sure if the 3 different colors are for different skintones which will come in handy for clients but I kinda just used them all this morning and this is how it turned out.

Step 1: My bare eye! Nothing on it but moisturizer and primer.. you can see like many I suffer from dark circles and lids.

Step 2: I applied the light and middle shade first and then applied the darkest shade on top under the eye and on the lids.

Step 3: I applied my normal concealer Mac's studio sculpt in NC30 just because I wanted even more coverage...

Step 4: I finished off with a dusting of my Mac Mineralized Skin Finish Powder in Medium Dark
(not sure why the image color is different there was no tweaking done probably just the way the flash went off!)

Step 5: Applied a simple makeup look and this is the final look.
For those curious I applied Mac shadow in Shroom to the entire lid up to the brow bone and Annabelle's navy waterproof liner to the lash line and smudged it a bit, Joe Fresh pencil liner in white to lower water line and finally CoverGirl LashBlast mascara in very black.

You can see that the difference between step 1 the bare eye and step 5 the finished look is significant. I really shouldn't have added my Mac concealer on top of the Eve Pearl so I could test this out properly but I wasn't thinking that early!

I will have to keep an eye on the darkness under my eyes over the day but so far so good!

What I liked:
  • the creamy consistency
  • the size of the compact
  • the fact that I got this item at 50% off!
  • the 3 different shades
  • the coverage
  • no cakeyness (so far)
  • the orange color seems to hide the dark purple/blue of the circles
What I disliked:
  • The regular price of this item at $50.00 usd
Conclusion:
Since I have only had this product on for about 3 hours I want to hold off on my conclusion until later in the day. I will update this section tonight so check back for my final review!

Did you take advantage of Eve Pearl's 50% off sale?

Face Atelier Lip Glaze Swatch & Review

I'm finally getting around to reviewing my IMATS purchases even though they have already been added to my kit and I have been sampling them on my clients.

When I walked in and saw the Face Atelier booth my eyes lit up because I had a few of their foundations in my kit and loved them. I walked over to the booth with my fellow beauty bloggers and started chatting with someone at the booth who turned out to be founder Debbie Bondar. She was really nice and when I mentioned I was interested in the lip glazes she showed me some of her favorites which I ended up purchasing. They had a great deal 3 glazes for $30 regularly they are $20 each.

I ended up with 4 glazes but once I got home I realized that they had mixed up 2 of the colors and I didn't get my Peach glaze that I really wanted. I immediately contacted the company via email and explained my situation asking if there was any way I could switch the 2 or return 1 and repurchase another expecting them to say "sorry there is nothing we can do" instead I received a warm friendly email back.
I spoke with a rep who helped straighten out the situation and because of how she dealt with me I can honestly say the customer service at Face Atelier is amazing!

In the end I'm happy to say I got my Peach glaze and am able to show you 5 great shades from Face Atelier.
(L to R: Cameo, Shiraz, Plum, Prim Rose, Peach)

All glazes come with a doe foot applicator which I prefer.

Swatches (L to R: Shiraz, Plum, Prim Rose,Peach, Cameo)

Each glaze comes in a 15ml tube and is described as an impossibly shiny, smooth as glass. Non-sticky, moisturizing formula and that's exactly what it is!

What I Liked:
  • Size of tube is very convenient
  • texture is very smooth
  • non-sticky which is huge for me
  • very shiny
  • doe foot applicator
  • great color pigment and selection
  • amazing customer service
  • quality products
What I disliked:

  • At $20 a pop this could get expensive however they do offer a pro discount for MUA's
Conclusion:

I would say the only thing I disliked about this product was the white caking between my lips after an hour or 2 of use, however this could just be me because it happens with a lot of lip glosses (does anyone know how to prevent this?). I adore their foundations and now I'm in love with their lip glazes too!

Next on my list?
The MELT Makeup remover!

Check out Face Atelier online at faceatelier.com for these lip glazes and other amazing products you wont be disappointed!

How to make your lips look fuller!

Want that full lip look without the medical fillers that cost $$$?
Want to get your lips to look pouty and sexy too?

Well here are some tricks and tips to give you that very look.

A lot of women think that when using lip liner you must stay within your natural lip line... false, there are no rules. In fact its one of the oldest tricks in the book to creating that fuller lip.

This trick can work with any liner color however I like to use a color close to my natural lip color for that oh so popular nude lip look. For me that's Mac Cosmetics pencil liner in "Stripdown".

Next on well moisturized lips traces just above your natural lip line starting in the middle of the lip following it down to each corner. Try not to go too far outside your natural lip line or it will begin to look too fake. Always make sure there is symmetry and balance so it looks natural. Next fill in your lips with the liner this will not only help your color last longer but also keep the color consistent.

At this point you can add your favorite lipstick or a natural gloss to add shine and color. A great lipstick that compliments the Stripdown liner is "Angel" by Mac (Kim Kardashians fav) or any pinky nude color would work well to achieve a fab lip.

Now for the pout, in order to create the illusion of more pouty lips add a bit of highlighting powder or shadow to the area just above your cupids bow (the middle of your upper lip) just under your nose. This will help bring that area forward thus creating an illusion of a fuller poutier lip!

Hope this helps those of you wondering how the celebs do it ;)

What are your fav tricks to a fuller pouty lip?

FOTD: Olive Green Eyes

Last night I decided to try out the Ben Nye Liquiset spray that I got as a sample from the Imats show along with the pigments from Mac that I picked up and talked about in this post.

I sprayed the Liquiset on a brush and dipped it in the "Copperized" pigment which is and Olive green with gold pearl sheen.
It wasn't quite the olive shade I wanted so I added a sweep of Sumptuous Olive by Mac on top and this is how is came out.

What I used on my Eyes of the day:
Eyes:
  • Urban Decay Primer Potion in Sin
  • Liquiset by Ben Nye sprayed on brush
  • Copperized Pigement by Mac (from holiday set) on lid
  • Sumptuous Olive by Mac on lid
  • Shroom by Mac on tear duct & brow bone
  • Annabelle Waterproof liner in black on upper & lower lash line then smudged with brush
  • CoverGirl LashBlast mascara in Very Black
  • Brow Blend trio shadow by Carol Baker Visage on brows
The olive shade really made the green in my otherwise brown/hazel eyes come out which I loved.

What do you think?

xoxo

Neutrogena VS Nivea Which Eye Makeup Remover Works Best?

Neutrogena VS Nivea

As I removed my makeup last night I went to reach for my normal eye makeup remover (Nivea) and noticed I had a brand new bottle (Neutrogena) which I wanted to test out and so I did!

I applied each product to its own cotton pad and swiped my eyes a few time the way I normally would.

Both claim to remove waterproof makeup, Neutrogena is a liquid and claims to be oil free while Nivea is a cream consistency and claims to be good for all skin types.

Here are my findings.
(only tested on eye area)

Neutrogena Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover

What I liked:
  • It did remove 95% of my eye makeup including mascara and I'm sure if I had gone over it again it would have all been gone
  • This item is affordable at I believe under $10.00
  • Easy to use
  • A little goes a long way
  • No offensive odor
What I disliked:
  • Even though this product claims to be oil free there was a really oily feeling on my skin after use and even while washing with a cleanser after
  • I wouldn't want to travel with this bottle as it looks like it could come open and spill everywhere
  • This item would probably not be the greatest for oily skin
  • I also wouldn't recommend this for sensitive skin

Nivea Visage Eye Makeup Remover

What I liked:
  • The creamy consistency
  • The fact that my skin didn't feel oily after use
  • That it took off about 90% of my mascara and eye makeup
  • Easy to use
  • Compact size
  • I would be ok with traveling with this one because the lid snaps shut and is pretty tight as well I feel there is a less likely hood of it spilling
  • A little goes a long way
  • No odor
  • Affordable, I believe I got this on sale at Shoppers for $4.99
What I disliked:
  • Didn't remove as well as the Neutrogena did

Conclusion:
If I had a choice between the 2 I would go with the Nivea Visage for sure. I felt that the oily residue of the Neutrogena even though it may not be oil made my skin feel uncomfortable and way too oily for my liking.

Even though the Nivea didn't remove as much mascara as the Neutrogena did, it still removed quite a bit and I'm sure if I went over with another application it would have gotten it all.

I used my normal Biore face wash after and it removed whatever makeup was left but I wouldn't recommend using either of these removers all over the face.

So my clear choice would be the Nivea Visage Eye Makeup Remover! In fact I've now added it to my kit an addition to my wipes...

Have you used either one of these removers before?
Which do you prefer?
Do you have an awesome makeup remover brand you want to share with us?

FOTD: Navy Smokey Eye

I was playing around with some of my shadows this weekend and ended up with this look. I really adore the way navy suits my eye color and its a nice change from the typical black smokey eye.

(sorry for the blurry pic)

Here's what I used.

Face:
  • Gosh Cosmetics Foundation Primer
  • Face Atelier Pro Liquid Foundation in #7
  • Mac Cosmetics Studio Sculpt Concealer in NC30
  • Mac Cosmetics Mineralized Skin Finish in Medium Deep
  • Mac Cosmetics Blush in Trace Gold (on upper cheeks & apples)
  • Mac cosmetics Blush/Bronzer in Blunt (to contour)
Eyes:
  • Urban Decay Primer Potion in Sin
  • Mac Cosmetics Shadow in Shroom (all over lid, tear duct and on brow bone)
  • Mac Cosmetics Shadow in Deep Truth (in crease and lower lash line)
  • Annabelle Waterproof Liner in Black (on upper and lower lash line and smudged with brush into lash line)
  • CoverGirl Lashblast Mascara in Very Black
Lips:
  • Face Atelier Lip Glaze in Cameo
The deep Truth I have is from the Shadowy Lady quad palette like the one below. Shroom is one of my fav must have shades by Mac I wear it almost every day.

In the pics the navy kind of looks grey but in person there was a hint of blue. I tried to capture the image as best as I could but it was hard to capture the true color.

Here is the pic I tweeted from my phone you can see the colors a bit better.

What do you guys think?
Have you tried a navy look?
