The Best Part Of Wedding Planning Has Arrived.. Cake Tasting!

Last Friday night we headed to my dear friend and cake maker extraordinaire Jen's of Custom Cakes By Jenz house to taste her most popular as well as my fav flavours for our wedding cake.

Jen and I have been friends for over 10 years now and since she began her baking adventure she has been my go to gal for all my cake and cupcake needs so when I got engaged I didn't even worry about the cake because I always knew I would ask her to design it.

Without saying too much, together we have come up with a classy yet chic design that I cant wait to see on the day of! She gets me and she puts up with my ever changing mind and that's why I love her!

She also invited us to stay for dinner... now I must mention at this point that her husband is as fab a cook as she is a baker so I couldnt say no.  We started with a caprice salad, just look as this presentation!
Then we were presented with fresh oysters followed by a seafood pasta and this amazing fish which I cant remember the name of but it was amazing!
After we stuffed our face and gave ourselves a food break we moved on to the reason we were there... CAKE! We tried everything from her to die for coconut to her new apple spice flavour which let me just tell you left me begging for more! She gave us generous sized samples in the form of cupcakes and mini cupcakes and took her time to explain everything from what flavours work best with others and what would work best for our fall wedding.
Jen is also adding to our sweet table with cake pops. Something that is new to her but never one to say no to a challenge she pulled it off and had mock ups for us to try. They turned out amazing!! So moist and bite sized, I cant wait to see these displayed.
We then talked about the styling of the cake. Its going to be 5 tiers... yes 5! I wanted height and she suggested adding another layer would give me the drama I wanted. Here is a mock up she threw together to give me an idea of the height. Don't mind the square in middle though.
My cake has been one of the least stressful parts of my wedding and a HUGE part of that had to do with Jen! Her "no problem" attitude is amazing and her skills are second to none. I have zero doubt that my wedding cake will be stunning and taste amazing.

THANK YOU JEN! I heart you!!

If you are in the Toronto/ GTA area I highly suggest checking her out. Not only is she VERY reasonably priced and her cakes look amazing, they taste amazing too which is the best part!

Visit her website or her Facebook page to see samples and connect with her for all your cake needs.

Im a Cougar in My Cougar Boots!

Can I tell you a secret?

I'm about to marry a man 5 years younger than me *gasp*. There are some who think its no big deal and then there are others who lovingly call me a cougar :) I don't know if Id consider myself a "cougar" BUT I do know one thing.... I love me some Cougar Boots!!

My friends over at Matchstick thought of me for their new campaign with Cougar Boots a Canadian company that makes products that are able to withstand even the harshest Canadian winters. Thank god for them because Ive been a cold toe sufferer every winter and Ive never been able to find a boot that actually keeps me warm.... Until now!

The boots arrived in this fun box which makes storing them in the summer easy!
The style I chose was called Mirage, it has a cute wedge and is made of both leather and suede.
I have to say I was really worried these wouldn't fit as I have a hard time with high boots thanks to my stupid...I mean sexy thick calves so when I tried these on and they didn't zip all the way up I wasn't shocked but not one to give up on such a fabulous boot I slouched them down a bit and stretched the "elastic" part on the back of the boot around and voila they zipped up!

So yes I have to wear them slightly slouchy but you know what? It works! Ive had so many compliments on them that I don't care that they don't go all the way up to my knees. If you do however want to see a good example of someone who's legs they do go up to check out my girl Lena's review.

This is how they look on moi... excuse the bad Blackberry pic.... not so bad huh?
These are seriously one of the most comfy boots I've ever tried on. There was no "breaking in" period required and even after hours and hours of running errands for the wedding my feet still felt great!

Check out some of the details on these babies. First the cute and stylish faux zipper detail at the front.
As I mentioned there is a little bit of elastic give at the back which comes in very handy for me and my sexy thick calves lol.
There is even a leather strap just to make it all that more stylish on the back on the ankle.
The inside is lined with polar plush fleece and these boots are waterproof so I'm pretty much covered for 3 out of 4 seasons here in Canada with these!!
I couldn't be happier with my new Cougar Boots! I would recommend them to anyone who's in the market for a quality pair of boots that will last you years!

Check out the Cougar Boot website for a location nearest you or to shop online!

On a Mission To Find a Coffee Shop That Provides #EqualCanada Sweeteners!

Remember my fabulous coffee date with a little princess last week? Well I was given the task again by the lovely folks at Collective Bias #Cbias to go on a mission to see if any local restaurant or coffee shop of my choice offered Equal #EqualCanada.

I chose Timothy's Cafe at our local mall for my coffee/catch up date with my girl Amelia. Well actually if you want the truth, my future husband had his bachelor party yesterday and was um... well hung over. His hangover food craving? EDO JAPAN! The only place to get Edo Japan near us was the mall as so I was sent of 2 missions., 1 for Equal and 1 for Edo lol.

I dont normally go to Timothy's as I generally think Tim Hortons when I was tea or coffee but this mission to find a place that serves Equal had me wanting to try something different. I looked around and found the area where they stocked all their sugars and sweeteners and noticed yet again that little blue Equal package was mission.

We placed our order, green teas with a shot of ginger in it (very refreshing) and then Amelia asked the girl serving us if they had any Equal available... the answer was (as suspected) nope...

They had all kinds of coffee and teas but no Equal Sweeteners... At this point I was told I wasn't allowed to take pictures so that kinda put a damper on the mission and we left.

And so the quest continues....

CHEERS!

I Never Say No To Coffee!

I know a great opportunity when I get one so when Collective Bias  #CBias and Equal Canada #EqualCanada asked if I wanted to go on a coffee date to Tim Hortans I simply couldn't refuse!

Naturally I asked my BFF and her adorable 10 month old who I lovingly call Fuzz to join me at our local stand alone Tim Hortans.

Our purpose for going that afternoon was to find out if indeed Tim Hortans offered its customers Equal Sweetener as an option. I was actually curious about this because I always take my coffee with two milks and one sweetener but I never normally ask what brand of sweetener they used.

We waltzed in and placed our order. 1 double double for my bff, 1 two milk one sweetener for moi, 1 cheese biscuit for Fuzz and 1 chicken wrap on whole wheat to split. I then asked if they had Equal Sweetener and got an apologetic "no sorry" I asked if any other locations provided it and he wasn't sure but gave me extra packs of the other brands stuff. I was surprised to see the lack of options since Equal is usually offered everywhere.

Guess Fuzz wasnt too happy about this news...

Before I left I wanted to fill out my comment card I had to go through almost the entire staff to locate them and I finally did only to find out no one knew where I was supposed to drop it off LOL. Ah well I tried!

I so needed this Friday catch up session, see one of my fav lil princesses, man I need a coffee because wedding planning is all I think about these days - break!
