Why should I use toner?

Why should we tone after cleansing? What does it do? Why is it good?

Well here is your answer....

Toning is important for both men and women as it is the protective step after gentle, but thorough cleansing of the skin as it keeps pores clean and skin healthy. For men, the need for toners may be significantly more than women since they have about fifteen percent oilier skin and considerably larger pores than women.

Toners are especially useful in keeping away environmental debris and pollutants that can be detrimental to your skin's health and this simple act of daily cleansing and toning helps keep the skin clear and firm.

As your skin ages, it loses its elasticity and this lack of suppleness makes you appear older than your years; here is where the prudent use of a good toner comes in.

Toners help remove all traces of oil, dirt and makeup and revitalize your face by closing the pores when patted on gently with cotton pads. Toning helps refresh and improve blood circulation to add that lost glow of youth to your skin.

Also a good skin toner will also help prevent winkles. If that's not reason enough I don't know what it ;)

* Remember its always best to get a gentle alcohol- free toner.

Pics from last weekends shoot.

Saturdays shoot went well and I had a lot of fun working with the photographer (Einat Velichover), models & hair stylists. I took some pics before the models went out to shoot for the photographer.

The first model we went for a very light and natural look so I used browns and beige simmer shadows on her eyes and a sun kissed bronze Mac blush on her cheeks. I kept the liner and mascara minimal and clean and used a soft pink on the lips with a nude liner.

The second model I added a bit more colour with Aquadisiac on the inner lid and Mystery (a dark brown) both by Mac on her outer lid and into the crease. I kept the liner on her upper lids to right on the lash line so it didn't close her eyes in too much. Did the same blush on the cheeks just added a bit more and went with a plum liner and nude shimmer lipstick for the lips.
The hair stylist went for a fingerwave meets high fashion look, I thought it turned out really funky.

A playful shot as she was getting her hair done :) Very cute!

I worked with an amazing team for this shoot and I cant wait to see the professional pics when they come in.

Ive been approached about a few more shoots and even a few online ad campaigns so things are going to get pretty busy really soon... cant wait :)

My Kit is organized & ready to go!

I have a huge photoshoot tomorrow with 14-15 models some of which are from Sutherland Models so I'm kinda nervous.

In preparation for Saturdays event I organized my kit. It now weighs a ton but at least I fit most of it in my case. I thought some of you may be interesting to know whats in my kit so I took some pics :)

The first pic is of the case open and my brush roll on the bottom there waiting to be placed in the bottom.

Lets start from the bottom where I have all my eyeshadow, contour & highlight, concealer, lipstick & bronzer palettes along with some Nacara foundations, Makeup Forever HD powder, cleaner, toner, moisturizer & some false lashes.

In the third tray I have the rest of my eyeshadows that aren't in palettes as well as Mac pigments, Jordane & Vasanti look shimmer powders, Mac paints which I generally use as a base & all my gel eyeliners from Mac & Coastal Scents.

The second tray holds the rest of my blushes & bronzers as well as 2 Nacara lip gloss wheels, 1 Mac lip gloss trio, Benefits High Beam, some sample foundations from Face Atelier, translucent powder & a cute pink gloss.

The top tray holds all of my lip & eye liners as well as my mascara which I have kept neat in this clear pouch. Also my brow powder trio from Carol Baker Visage & my Zero Plus & Zero Minus foundations from Face Atelier.

I tried to fit everything I needed in my case but I still have some essentials I cant leave at home so I placed them in this cute sparkly makeup case. In here I have my brush cleaner from Face Atelier, disposable mascara & lip wands, Q-tips, cotton pads, eyelash curler, white towel for station set up & I'm sure some other "just in case" things such as mouth wash!

Closed and ready to transport to my shoot :)

My Face Atelier Products Arrived!

So my products finally arrived. I ordered them on April 9th and they came in April 21st... Keep in mind there was a long weekend in there somewhere so although I kind of expected it to arrive faster its still not bad.

I ordered a bunch of $1.00 samples which all came in 5 Gram sample jars like the one below(only with the Face Atelier logo on the lid). The foundations were totally filled to the top however the lipsticks & concealer were a lesser amount but still suitable for testing.

I also ordered some full sized products like the Ultra Foundation in Zero Minus, which is a lightener and Zero Plus which is a darkener. This will allow me to add a drop of which ever I need to any foundation to create the perfect colour!

I also got a spot concealer & lip brush which really helps apply concealer to acne, scars or marks and get good coverage. Here's the description on the site : The petite and gently tapered bristles of this brush work perfectly with concealer to cover unsightly blemishes or uneven colour. And with its sharp edges, use it with FACE atelier lipsticks and ensure the perfect lip.
The last item I got was the Brush Buff 3 in 1 cleaner, disinfectant & conditioner. This will help ensure the longevity of my brushes and the sanitation of them for use on my clients.

I will be testing out some of these products this weekend at my photoshoot so I will post a review next week.

Happy Earth Day let's recycle & Reuse!

Recycle Those Beauty Products!

  • MAC Cosmetics has a strong recycling program called Back to MAC, which allows you to receive a free lipstick when you turn in six empty MAC products. At freestanding pro stores, you may be able to get a free eyeshadow, lipstick, or lipgloss for your empties.
  • Origins invites you to bring in your empty beauty products, jars, bottles, etc. of any brand, and Origins will have them send to be recycled or used for energy recovery. As a thank you, Origins will treat you to a free sample of one of their skincare products (depending on availability).
  • LUSH asks you to bring in 5 empty black pots to be recycled (and you might get a freebie, too)
These are just a few of the companies that have amazing programs that will not only save you money & get you freebies but also help the environment but cutting down on packaging!

Bridal "Mehndi" Makeup

I did the makeup for this bride on her mehndi "henna" night, which is usually the night before the big reception. This night is generally not too made up so strong cheeks, lips or false lashes were not an option. We agreed to play up the eyes to match her shades of green Indian outfit.

I used Mac paint in Bare Canvas all over the eye then applied Juxt on the inner lid, Humid on the outer lid and Nylon on the brow bone (all by MAC). She wanted a bit of sparkle so I did a green sparkle liner from Urban Decay on top of the black fluidline liner.

She has amazing skin and big almond eyes that were easy to work on. She looked like a princess with her outfit on and I could not be happier for her.

Beauty Secret: Extra Virgin Olive Oil

A few years ago a girlfriend mentioned that she used olive oil on her skin to keep it soft and then while I was in school my teacher mentioned it again so I tried it. Olive Oil applied to the skin, hair and nails, and is an excellent way to moisturize.

Pour some oil into an old empty lotion bottle or a new squeeze bottle and after your shower apply a little bit of (Cold Pressed) Extra Virgin Olive Oil onto slightly damp skin and rub it in until its somewhat absorbed. I would recommend you do this after a night time shower before bed because it can stain certain fabrics.

I was so curious about this that I did some research and found some other tips for you guys...

To moisturize the skin, apply olive oil to dry spots or stretch marks. You will love how soft and supple your skin feels!

Use Extra Virgin Olive Oil to build strong fingernails and soften cuticles. Apply a teaspoon or so of Olive Oil to your hands and nails overnight, then put gloves on. Wear them overnight. Gradually you’ll notice a big difference in the strength of your nails. They will become much more resistant to cracking, breaking, chipping, or tearing.

I’ve also read that Olive Oil, applied to the scalp can help prevent hair loss. To do this, massage it into the scalp overnight for at least 8 days. Let it work on the scalp overnight and shampoo and condition in the morning. I don’t know if this is true or not, but it might be worth a try.

Keep in mind that applying any type of oil to your hair may be hard to shampoo out right away and may leave hair a bit limp and flat for a few days but I'm guessing the outcome is worth it.

Have you tried to moisturize with Olive oil? Do you have any tips.tricks you want to share? Leave me a comment Id love to hear about it!

Face Atelier

I was approved for a Pro account at Face Atelier so I placed a sample order today. I`ve heard so many great things about this line and read so many reviews that I`m so excited to get my hands on it and test it out.

I ordered their Zero Minus and Zero Plus foundations which is basically used to lighten and darken any foundation color. This will make finding the perfect match for anyones skin a breeze. I also ordered a bunch of foundation, camouflage duet & lipstick samples as well as brush cleaner and a small spot concealer brush.

This site is great because even without a pro account you can order samples of some of their products such as foundations, powders & lipsticks for only $1.00 + shipping!! This is a Montreal based company so shipping within Canada is only approx. $6.00.

So head over to http://www.faceatelier.com/ and check out the amazing pro quality products and samples.

I`ll be checking my mailbox everyday waiting for my products and will definitely review them once I receive it.

Q & A : Dry cracked lips

Q: My lips are constantly dry and sometimes even crack during the winter months what can I do to solve this?

A: This is a common problem for many during the cold dry months so you're not alone. First of all do NOT pick at them as this tends to only aggravate the problem. Instead, try putting some Vaseline on them and with a soft toothbrush gently scrub your lips until the dry patches are gone then before bed each day coat lips with Vaseline and keep lips coated throughout the day with a moisturizing chapstick or gloss. That should do the trick... :)
