FOTD: Navy Smokey Eye

I was playing around with some of my shadows this weekend and ended up with this look. I really adore the way navy suits my eye color and its a nice change from the typical black smokey eye.

(sorry for the blurry pic)

Here's what I used.

Face:
  • Gosh Cosmetics Foundation Primer
  • Face Atelier Pro Liquid Foundation in #7
  • Mac Cosmetics Studio Sculpt Concealer in NC30
  • Mac Cosmetics Mineralized Skin Finish in Medium Deep
  • Mac Cosmetics Blush in Trace Gold (on upper cheeks & apples)
  • Mac cosmetics Blush/Bronzer in Blunt (to contour)
Eyes:
  • Urban Decay Primer Potion in Sin
  • Mac Cosmetics Shadow in Shroom (all over lid, tear duct and on brow bone)
  • Mac Cosmetics Shadow in Deep Truth (in crease and lower lash line)
  • Annabelle Waterproof Liner in Black (on upper and lower lash line and smudged with brush into lash line)
  • CoverGirl Lashblast Mascara in Very Black
Lips:
  • Face Atelier Lip Glaze in Cameo
The deep Truth I have is from the Shadowy Lady quad palette like the one below. Shroom is one of my fav must have shades by Mac I wear it almost every day.

In the pics the navy kind of looks grey but in person there was a hint of blue. I tried to capture the image as best as I could but it was hard to capture the true color.

Here is the pic I tweeted from my phone you can see the colors a bit better.

What do you guys think?
Have you tried a navy look?

Automatic Lotion Dispenser Rave, Review & Pics!

One day about 8 months ago I went over to my parents house for dinner and noticed a new gadget my mother had purchased for her kitchen; an automatic soap dispenser!
She told me she has purchased it for $60 and though I really wanted one for my place I thought that was a bit steep so I decided to try to find one online.

Well I'm happy to say that after months of searching and comparing I finally found one cheaper!
I got mine from AgeComfort.com for $35.00 CDN and it was the cheapest I could find online or in stores.

I ordered mine and while on the site I saw a few things my parents could use so I added them to my cart and noticed they were located in Ontario so they arrived within a few days... talk about speedy shipping!

While I initially wanted it for a soap dispenser after thinking about it I realized that it would be better use to me as a lotion dispenser. The product description states that it can be used for soap, lotion, Hand sanitizer (great for office spaces or a home with kids IMO) & detergents and can hold up to 550ml.

Last night I got around to testing it and here's how it went.
I opened the shipping box which revealed the product box.

I decided to fill it with my Life brand aloe after sun moisturizer because it was the only somewhat full lotion I had around plus I wanted to test it with something cheaper just in case.

I read the directions, inserted the battery's (4 AA not included), opened up the top lid and poured my lotion in.

Replaced the lid, turned the power on, adjusted the drop size up and VOILA!

Wave your hand under the spout area and the perfect amount of lotion is dispensed each time!

Here is the dispenser next to my Bath & Body Works hand soap just to show you the size comparison.

What I liked:
- The cost!
- The fact that it was SO easy to set up and use
- That you can control the amount of lotion/soap dispensed
- The shipping speed
- The companies fast and friendly customer service (I emailed to ask them a question about another product)

What I disliked:
- That you need a screwdriver to open the battery compartment at the bottom

Conclusion:
This product was exactly what I had been looking for and although their website is geared mostly to the older generation they had the best prices on this and other items I ordered for my parents.
I got it at a great price and the fact that it works so well really will make moisturizing on those lazy days just that much easier!
I didn't love that I needed a screw driver to open the battery compartment however luckily I did have one around and at the end of the day it really wouldn't stop me at all from using this product.

If you hate when you apply lotion, soap or sanitizer and have to touch the bottle again and make it all slimy this is the product for you! This would also make an amazing gift for the holidays so head over to AgeComfort.com and check it out.

They have a discount going on right now too which gives you an extra 10% off for Black Friday!
Coupon Code: "blackfriday09". Use it before 11/29 (Sun)

Vasanti Cosmetics Lip Balm & Lipstick Review & Swatches

Last Wednesday I posted about Vasanti Cosmetics 1 day only 40% off sale. I browsed their site for a while and decided to stay within my budget as the Imats were only days away. I ended up with 1 lip balm, 1 lipstick & 1 face base powder foundation for my mom.

I was expecting it to take up to a week to arrive but by Monday they were here!

Now lets get down to business....
I picked out a tinted lip balm in "Cancun" a sheer coral color with a touch of pink & a lipstick in "USA" a soft matte red that's great red for all skin tones.

As you can see in the swatches Cancun is quite sheer but really pretty for those who want just a touch of color without it being so obvious.
USA looks a bit dark in the tube but once applied it really is a very bright pretty red with a blue undertone which in my opinion works better with most skin tones.

And here is USA on me. I don't usually wear lipstick because I really don't like the feeling but I really fell in love with this red and actually may be bold enough to not only use it on my clients but myself too :)
Bonus: it really makes your teeth seem shades whiter which is always a plus!

Overall I'm happy with my purchases and with a 40% off coupon how could I go wrong!

Did you get in on the 1 day sale?
What items did you pick up?

A weekend at the IMATS with fellow beauty bloggers!

Sunday was a day I had been looking forward to for a very long time. Not only was it going to be my first year at the Toronto IMATS (International Makeup Artist Trade Show) but it was also the first time I would be meeting some of my fellow makeup artists and beauty bloggers.

Running on little sleep for a busy weekend filled with family, friends and clients I headed to the Heritage Court building for the show. When I got there I was expecting it to be busy with line ups everywhere but to my surprise there were no line ups and the crowd was just starting to trickle in.

As we walked in we spotted Elessa Vovan from Pursebuzz.com and Koren also known as Encore the makeup guru on youtube. It was exciting seeing the 2 people that took youtube by storm and helped with teaching me many of the tricks of the trade.

Later we got the chance to meet them and I gotta say they were 2 of the most friendly people we met.

We also got to meet Derek Selby from CoverFX and who is also a local celeb appearing on the show Cityline.

Also got the chance to meet many of my fellow beauty bloggers and even some old classmates.

(L to R) Jenn, Iris (classmate),Encore,Me,Lelo (classmate),Michelle & Pursebuzz
Halifax was also there but she got cut out of the pic :(
I also met the fab Monica whom I didn't get a pic with unfortunately.

Michelle gets painted with some amazing Ben Nye pigments.

Also had the opportunity to see a former classmate working her magic in the student special FX competition. Caz Carter came in 2nd place and I couldn't be prouder! You rocked Caz.

Here's a look at some of the booths at the show. One of my fav being the Face Atelier booth where I spent the majority of my budget.

Had the pleasure of attending Encores seminar on brushes which was very informative I gotta say.

Look at the talent of this body painter... nuts!

Overall I had a blast meeting up with some amazing girls who happen to love makeup and the industry just as much as I do. I got a lot of key pieces for my kit and scooped up some great deals. Here is what I ended up with...

Were you at the Imats this year?
How did you like it?
What goodies did you pick up?

Mac Cosmetics Holiday Pigment Set

MAC Cosmetics Magic, Mirth, and Mischief Collection for Holiday 2009

The other day I browsed the Mac counter at the Bay where my pro discount does unfortunately apply and saw the new holiday collection. I had to use up a gift certificate I had gotten as a gift so I thought what better way to spend it then on pigments which are part of the Mischief Makers collection!

Really, who doesn't love pigments.. They are so versatile. From shadows to adding it to nail polish these mini pigments will come in handy in my kit.

I decided on the Haute High Jinks/warm set because I not only loved the colors but that they would be pretty neutral and flattering on most of my clients.

This set includes the following colors and come in the cutest box as seen below.

Haute High Jinks/Warm
Jardin Aires Tan with gold pearlized pigments (Pigment) (Limited Edition) (Re-promote)
Rushmetal Rich copper sparkle (Pigment) (Limited Edition) (Re-promote)
Copperized Olive green with gold pearl (Pigment) (Limited Edition) (Re-promote)
Museum Bronze Rich taupe with gold pearlized pigments (Pigment) (Limited Edition) (Re-promote)
Reflects Gold Gold glitter (Glitter) (Permanent)

Here are some swatches from the set I purchased.
Correct me if I named the swatches wrong but I went by the order they were placed in the set and the names on the bottom of the box.
Reflects Gold hardly shows up on my camera but its stunning in real life.

These pigments retail for $35.50+tax and would make an awesome gift for any makeup lover so go get them before its gone!

PS- I was fooling around and came up with a new layout... might be temporarybut what do you think?
