FOTD + Diet Coke's TIFF Gala Pics

Last night was Diet Coke's TIFF Gala at The Hoxton which I invited to and it was most certainly a showing of the who's who of Toronto. I saw a lot of my fellow tweeters and bloggers there who's live tweets were displayed on the large projection on one wall which seems to be a must at any media event these days.

As we entered we were given long pearl necklaces (a nice touch), as we made our way inside we noticed a green screen photobooth, a Diet Coke chandelier and branding everywhere. Rows of DC bottles along every counter top and even specialty cocktail menus that were sure to include the drink of the night.
To the back there was an oyster stand with different sauces that me and my BFF just had to try! This was my very first time trying oysters and besides the fact that I put way too much hot sauce it was actually pretty good.

The music was amazing thanks to DJ Vivi Diamond, the open bar was put to good use for everyone but me (I was the DD) and we left with a swag bag filled with vintage Diet Coke bottles, Pop Chips and a few other goodies. Here are a few other pics from last nights event.
From the blinged out bathroom to the blinged out hostesses ;)

Despite the small little line on the invite mentioning the old hollywood theme, I wore leopard!!
Check out my FOTD below to see how I decided to do my makeup to go with the top I love so much.

Maybelline EyeStudio - What It Did For Me

A few weeks ago I received a BIG and I do mean BIG surprise in the mail... What was it? This...

The whole new Maybelline EyeStudio line was mine to play with!
What was inside? This...

I swatched the duo shadows, here is Lawless Lavender #10 and Khaki Craze #30.

Then I swatched one of the Quads below is 'Give me' #05.

All the shadows in the line are either shimmery or glittery. If you love sparkle this is these are the shadows for you.

I found the duos sort of blended together once on the eye and the color difference couldn't be seen (see eye pic below). The quads were too sparkly and just not for me. When applying them on others I found the glitter often fell onto their cheeks which was annoying to get off so I actually prefer the duo's over the quads for this reason.

I tested out Khaki Craze, brown gel liner and curling 2 step XXL Pro mascara on myself and this is what I got...

The Brown gel liner applied smoothly and with ease. I wouldn't recommend using the brush that comes with it as I found it way too stiff and made applying the gel more difficult then it needed to be. A good angle liner brush works perfectly with this product.

The mascara's were all double sided with step 1 doing different things from taming your lashes to building them with microfibers, Step 2 ranged from adding intense color to brushing on extensions... Ive been using the black and purple one that is for curling lashes. Step one is a white primer and step 2 is the intense color with a curved brush...

At first I wasn't sure what to think of this mascara.. The 2 steps are fine when I'm not in a rush but seems like a waste of time when I am.
The curved brush isn't my favorite and as with most brushes in this shape this one was hard to keep far enough away from my lashes that it didn't get all over my lips. After a few days of use I finally got the hang of it and I actually don't mind it now... Not sure if it will be a repurchase though.

Over all I thought the line was extensive but lacked any matte shadows which for me is important. The amount of glitter in the Color Pulsh Quads made them impractical for me and for use on clients but could be fun for a night out. The mascaras seem great if your a 2 stepper kinda gal. The liners were easy to use and I'm sure could also be worn as a shadow base all over the lid.

If you are in the mood to try something new and fun give Maybelline's EyeStudio a chance and see how you enjoy it ;)

Annabelle Minerals & Lip Plumping Gloss The Way 2 Go for Summer!

I'm generally not a fan of mineral makeup ill be honest although recently I've been pleasantly surprised with the quality of mineral makeup. Annabelle Cosmetics Minerals line is no exception.

The foundation covered and evened out my skin which I didn't think it would. I still used my regular concealer under my eyes but only the minerals on the rest of my face and it worked really well.

The blush and bronzer are pigmented yet soft so its easy to use and nothing to be afraid of lol.
The Lip Plumping glosses have a great texture to them however the pale pink one is super sheer and doesn't show too much on me. They were a little hard to squeeze out of the tube but I'm told there is new packaging on its way to make this easier.

The Pigment dust was swept on with a fluffy brush for a light application since I didn't want to be SO matchy with my green outfit but the beauty about these pigments is that with a denser brush the shade could be quite vibrant which adds versatility.

I decided to do a FOTD using my Annabelle & Marcelle key items.
Here's what I used (with the exception of the dark pink gloss)

Face:
Annabelle Barely Beige Minerals Foundation($12.50)
Annabelle Minerals Powder Bronzer inTerra($10.50)
Annabelle Minerals Powder Blush in Au Natural($10.50)

Eyes:
Annabelle Minerals Pigment Dust in Eco Chic ($8.50)
Mac Shroom Eyeshadow on brow bone
Annabelle Smudgeliner in Rich Chocolate (Reviewed here)
Marcelle Volume Precision Mascara (Reviewed here)

Lips:
Annabelle Volume Lip Pluming Gloss in Sweet Tweet ($8.50) (Cherryoke also shown in pic)

Annabelle continues to impress me with each new launch of products. Some have turned into daily wears for me which is cuz I'm a pretty simple girl in terms of daily makeup. These products were light and did the job. A great choice for summer when wearing heavy liquid foundation isn't an option.

LG Toronto Fashion Week FOTD!

Last night I attended 2 LG Fashion Week shows to watch designers Lundstrom & Evan Biddell showcase their new collections. It was my first experience with fashion week so I didn't quite know what to expect. I arrived to a beautifully decorated entrance room stocked with L'oreal makeup and hair stations, Schick Quatrro booth & even Barbie made her presence known at fashion week with a booth all her own!

The music was pumping and the bar was stocked all in anticipation for the runways shows. The who's who of the fashion world were in attendance as well as every key online and off magazine. We saw some of the most amazing shoes, strangest outfits and crazy hats last night but it was all embraced by this fashion forward crowd.

This dress was covered in edible goodies.

Dresses made of napkins

Stunning Red dresses front and center as we walked in.

Time for the shows...

And of course it IS a beauty blog so what good would I be if I didn't talk about the look for the night! I wore all black which seemed to be the trend for the night and balanced it all off with a hot red lip!

My Birthday Face Of The Day!

  • Cargo's blu_ray mattifier
  • Face Atelier's pro foundation in #6

I wanted to be dramatic without being overdone and I really liked how it came out ;)

When I posted a pic in twitter before I went out I got a lot of comments about my hair asking if I had it done or what I used so I thought I'd mention that I did it myself and although it takes a bit of time its worth it for me because these curls generally last me the whole weekend!

First I use TRESemmé's Heat Tamer Protective Spray on my damp hair and then flip my head over and blow dry running a big paddle brush over it to create volume. When my hair is about 70% dry I flip my head back and use a big round brush to smooth out the tops. Keep in mind your hair doesn't have to be perfectly straight throughout because you will be curling it however the roots should not have any kinks.

Once hair is dry I use a 1" (believe it or not) ceramic curling iron by Jilbere de Paris that I got at Sally's Beauty Supply. I section off my hair and start and the bottom section. I take approx 1" thick pieces and wrap them around the iron so they curl away from my face and once released from the iron I spray the section with Tres Two Ultra Fine Mist Hair Spray 4+4 By TRESemme that I also picked up from Sally's. Repeat this all over and then let the next section down and do the same thing. I like to work in small sections and take my time that way things look nicer. Once I get to the top I figure out if I want a middle or side part and curl accordingly away from the face. When its all done you can spray it with some spray shine or just leave it which is what I do and VOILA!!

I hope this helped with some of the questions and thank you SO much for all the beautiful wishes I had a great weekend :)
