I recently purchased Urban Decay's New Primer Potion in "Sin" from Sephora for $22 CDN + tax after hearing great things about this new champagne colored primer.

I thought something was wrong with mine because the wand was on an angle but apparently after taking a closer look at the UD website I see that they have a new wand for the primer potions so that it reaches every angle of the "Genie" like bottle.. smart!

With the sunshine comes....

tIts summer time and most people cant wait to enjoy basking in the sun however did you know that the sun can cause fine lines and wrinkles?

Many people incorrectly assume dry skin leads to wrinkles and that moisturizers can prevent them. Not true. Research shows 90 percent of wrinkles are caused by the sun's UVA light and sun damage is the #1 cause of premature aging in women and men.

Why are UVA rays so bad? Even at low-level exposures, UVA light breaks down collagen, which causes wrinkles. Even worse, scientists have found that UVA is the main culprit for many melanomas because it reaches deep into the underlying support structure of the skin.

Try this lightweight dry-touch sunscreen from Neutrogena's Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock.
This product retails for approx $15.99 in Canada but is well worth it.
This sunblock should be applied after your moisturizer and be given a few minutes to settle into the skin before applying makeup.
It goes on lightly, doesn't turn an oily face into a greasepit and best yet, it won't cast "ghost glow," the annoying white cast that some sunblocks give.

Neutrogena's products are now made with Helioplex, which, like Mexoryl, offers ultra protection from the sun's UVA rays. Most sunscreens on the market only offer protection from UVB rays, but it's the UVA rays that can wreak havoc deep within the epidermis and causing some bad skin cancers.

Whatever product you choose a facial sunblock used daily even when cloudy is essential in the fight against fine lines so go do your research and testing to figure out which sunblock works for you.

Exfoliating... Do I really have to?!

The answer to that question is no.. you don't HAVE to but here are some reasons you may want to ;)

Facial scrubs work by removing the top layer of dead skin cells that tend to dull your complexion. I find exfoliating skin 1-2x a week with a gentle scrub keeps skin glowing and looking it's best. Make sure you use a gentle scrub with tiny grains. Big grains in cheap scrubs can tear skin and cause more harm than good.

May's Photoshoot Pics are In!

Remember THIS post I wrote about a photoshoot I did a few weeks ago? Well some of the final pics are in so I thought Id post them for all to see.

I'm pretty happy with the way they came out despite some lighting issues.
This was one of Natalie's first attempts at head shot & beauty/fashion photography. All photos were shot in natural or existing ambient light, which made for an interesting and challenging shoot.

We worked with an amazing team of people that all worked it out to produce some great pics.

Makeup Artists should always be hygienic!!

Ever since I attended school for makeup I have been extra aware of hygiene and making sure everything in my kit is sanitary. It was always stressed to us in school and I'm a firm believer that it is our duty as a MUA's to make sure we follow this.

I have been in 2 weddings since I graduated and seen a few other artists apply makeup and almost all of them used the mascara wand from the used tube on their clients and then placed it back in the tube only to use it on another client.

I don't care how great of an artist you are this is NEVER acceptable!
Disposable wands should always be used and never double dipped as to not contaminate the entire tube.

Ladies if you are ever getting your makeup done and the artists tries to use the mascara wand from the tube, unless its a brand new tube and they are giving it to you to keep after, stop them right away!

If you have your makeup done professionally, never let the artist apply mascara on you from a tester that still has its wand. This may seem drastic, but you don’t know where that wand has been! A conscientious professional will cut off the wand and use disposable brushes. She will also never double-dip.

Why is this so important?
We all have bacteria that live in our lashes. We live harmoniously with them provided they don’t get out of control. Every time you use mascara, you take off some of those bacteria and put them in a dark warm environment hospitable to bacteria - the mascara tube. Eventually, their numbers will break down the preservatives. So don’t keep your mascara longer than three months.

Professionally, if someone comes at you with a mascara tester with questionable history, ask the artist if she would mind taking a new one from stock and using disposable brushes on you, or buy a mascara from her and ask her to use that one.
