Longer Lashes In The New Year with LATISSE®

I don't know one woman who doesn't or wouldn't want longer fuller lashes. With the runways, magazines and ad campaigns all emphasizing lashes its no wonder that mascara sales are booming, however did you know that 99% of mascara ads have the models wearing false lashes too??

For years women have been turning to the mascara, false lash combo to get a fuller longer look but lashes can get expensive, time consuming and can be hard to apply on yourself so wouldn't you want to know about a product that could eliminate all that fuss??

LATISSE® is the first and only FDA approved prescription treatment that helps your own lashes grow longer, stronger and fuller. The LATISSE® solution is a once-a-day treatment you apply topically to the base of your upper eyelashes, as instructed by your doctor. You may start to see more length in as little as 4 weeks and you should achieve full growth in 16 weeks.

I recently chatted with my girl and LATISSE®  representative Joy David-Tilberg (from makeupjunkie.ca) about her new role with the company and her thoughts on the product as a current user.

What is your role with LATISSE®?
I am Latisse's beauty expert for Toronto, which means I get to speak to media, bloggers, and other makeup junkies like me about Latisse, and explain how to incorporate Latisse into the latest beauty trends.

Have you used or are you currently using the product?
I am currently using Latisse and I’m extremely excited for the final results!  I have barely-there lashes and I've tried just about every lash product out there, from mascaras, to eyelash curlers and even lash extensions. I’m really excited that I’ve found a product to grow my natural lashes longer, fuller and darker. And it’s really easy to apply – I just apply it at night before bed to the base of my upper eyelid margins.

If so what has been the greatest change since using it?
I've been using it for a little over a month now and am already starting to see some growth and fullness in my lashes! Now, when I curl and apply my mascara my lashes really stand out without much effort!

Have there been any reactions or side effects?
I have not experienced any major side effects. In my first week, I experienced dry eyes but that went away the following week. Mild symptoms such as this happen in less than four per cent of patients. Latisse has an extensive safety history: it has the same active ingredient and formulation as Lumigan, a glaucoma medication which has been around in Canada since 2002.

Who would benefit from Latisse?
Anyone who wants to grow their own natural lashes longer, fuller and darker. With all the products on the market just for the lashes alone, it's pretty evident women are obsessed with beautiful, big lashes! In fact, according to recent research, more than half (54%) of Canadian women want to grow their natural lashes.

How long does it take to start seeing results?

Typically, you start to see results at 8 weeks and full growth at 16 weeks.

How long can you use the product for?
To see full results you must apply Latisse once daily for 16 weeks. To maintain your lashes, continued treatment with Latisse is required.

Why must we get a prescription in order to buy Latisse?
Latisse is the first and only eyelash growth product approved by Health Canada, therefore, it can only be obtained from licensed medical health professional.

Who do you NOT recommend Latisse for?
Latisse is not approved for pregnant women or people under 18 years of age.  But, anyone else interested in Latisse should speak to their physician to see if this product is right for them.

How safe is Lattise for the eyes?
Treatment with Latisse is well tolerated.  In Latisse clinical trials, side effects such as itchy eyes, redness or a darkening of eyelid skin, occurred in less than 4 per cent of patients.  Latisse contains the same active ingredient as a glaucoma medication called Lumigan, which has been approved in Canada since 2002.  Latisse is applied to the base of the upper eyelid margin using a specially designed applicator and five per cent of the dose of the active ingredient in Lumigan.

Why should I choose Latisse over other over the counter brands that make the same promises?
Latisse is the first and only prescription eyelash growth product that has been clinically proven to grow natural eyelashes longer, thicker and darker. What women should know is that over-the-counter products have not gone through rigorous clinical testing, which means that many of the promised results are unproven.  Over-the-counter products may contain peptides, natural extracts, vitamins or prostaglandin analogs that influence eyelash growth.  However, none have been studied the same way as bimatoprost 0.03%, the active ingredient found in Latisse.

For those of you who spend time, money and effort trying to get those perfect lashes on a daily basis this might be the answer to your prayers! The initial time and money it will take to obtain LATISSE® from your doctor can potentially free you up from your daily struggle to achieve the perfect lashes. I want to thank Joy for chatting with me and giving me the 411 on LATISSE®.
